Title : Piercing through The Body Art Issues
Speaker : Kevin Troutman

Duration : 90 minutes

Webplay Recording Date : 8-25-2009
Webplay Price : $ 150 for two weeks viewing

Webinar Overview:

As tattoos, piercings and other forms of body art have become increasingly prevalent; is your hospital grappling with how to deal with this trend. Do your younger workers proudly display their body art, while the older workers have exhibited a variety of responses? Do you have some employees who are offended? Do you have others who have embraced the fad?

Do you know the reaction of your patients and their families? Providing care for an ever-aging population, many of whom are already frail and/or apprehensive, is important to your success. Where are you at with this issue?

Do you plan to implement a change in your dress code and grooming policy regards to all tattoos and piercings? Will you require all tattoos to be covered and piercings to be limited to earlobes? Your hospital will join a growing list of healthcare employers, and employers in general, who must address the increasing popularity of tattoos and piercings among employees. But will your proposed changes sparked vigorous debates among employees and even press coverage. In other words, body art, piercings and grooming standards may just become a sensitive subject.

Like it or not, traditional dress code and appearance standards are being challenged today more than ever. While employers still retain wide latitude, practical, social and legal factors are requiring more careful consideration of requests that might have been readily (and safely) dismissed several years ago. No matter how your hospital or clinic deals with these issues, applicable policies should be clearly stated in writing and readily available to all employees.
